Michelle Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Hylocereus and an unknown species. More information to be posted once it becomes available. This variety produces a round-shaped fruit similar to a costaricensis species. The first fruit weighed in at three-quarters of a pound, making it smaller than other costaricensis species—the external appearance of the pure fruit red with green-tipped fins. The inner flesh is a dark red color with a firm texture and a tangy and sweet flavor. The first fruit tested in 2020 had a brix score of 16.7. The fruit had more acidity than sweetness with a mild earthy aftertaste.
The flowers of Michelle are very fragrant, resembling other red Dragon Fruit species. This variety is also a robust grower with large three-sided stems that are olive green in color. Medium spins occur along the rib line of each stem, where they are the first point of contact. Spicy Exotics collected this variety from a tropical grower in California. While testing for self-fertility is still in progress, the collector assured us it was Self Sterile.
