Also known as Thai Red, It’s a fantastic edible Dragon Fruit plant obtained from Thailand, and this is where it gets its name from. It is a fast and self-fertile easy grower. This is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to start growing Dragon Fruit for the first time. Spicy Exotics acquired this Dragon Fruit variety from a tropical nursery in Louisiana. This variety was one of our first varieties collected.
The plant growth of Thai Dragon is typical to undatus growth in size. The stems are segmented and three-sided with small thorns. Mature branches and get thick, so make sure you pick a trellis that can support this variety.
Flowers of Thai Dragon are typical of other undatus varieties and are self-fertile. They are abundant in 2 to 3 flower cycles throughout the calendar year, typically starting in June. On average, flower bud emerging to flower open in 21 days. These flowers are elaborate and bloom only at night.
When pollination occurs, round pink-colored edible fruits will appear — fruits weigh up to 1.5 pounds with an average brix of 14. The oval fruit is covered with distinguished green scales and can get up to 5 inches long. Enclosed in the thin skin is a large mass of sweet white flavored flesh and numerous small black seeds. The fruit can be eaten out-of-hand but even better chilled.
