White King Hollywood
White King Hollywood Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Hylocereus genus and the species undatus. This variety is similar to other undatus species in all aspects except that it has a sweet fruit. Some have shortened the name to just White King. Spicy Exotics collected this variety from a tropical grower in California.
The plant growth of White King Hollywood is typical of undatus growth in size. The stems are segmented and three-sided with small thorns and can get rather large, so make you pick the correct trellis to support this variety when planting.
Flowers are also characteristic of undatus and are self-fertile. This variety is considered a universal pollinator from July – October, as its pollen can pollinate just about any variety of Dragon Fruit. The flowers are at their largest when fully open a few hours after sunset and then close a couple of hours after sunrise.
The fruits of this variety weigh about one pound with red skin and green fins. From flower to fruit, it took 30 days. The flesh color is white throughout with a firm texture. The first fruit we tested had a brix of 16.6 with excellent flavor. Other growers have reported that White King Hollywood tested 20+ brix ratings. We expect to see this in future years, as this was our first fruiting season.
In summary, this is one of the best undatus varieties we offer at Spicy Exotics. If you are a farmer, hobbyist, or hybridizer, you should consider growing White King Hollywood.
